MBSA awarding RM35,000 for Shah Alam photography contest

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) are awarding a total of RM35,000 for the 2021 Shah Alam photography contest. The contest is open to Malaysians 18-years-old and over, and will be going on until 1 September 2021.

The photography contest—themed ‘Kami Sayang Shah Alam‘—has five categories that you can choose to enter. Here are the categories:

  • Buildings/Landmarks – Showing off the “beauty” of buildings, monuments, or landmarks in Shah Alam
  • Nature – Showing off the landscape, the natural world, flora and fauna, and the parks of Shah Alam
  • Assets of Shah Alam City Council – Showing off “assets” of the Shah Alam City Council
  • Lifestyle – A moment or event to do with sports, people, lifestyle or work in Shah Alam
  • the New Normal – Showing the “new normal”, like following SOPs around Shah Alam

“The winners will be awarded through several aspects—the categories, composition, creativity, and photography techniques besides the photos needing to be taken around the MBSA administration,” said MBSA corporate communications head Shahrin Ahmad.

First place winners from each category will win RM3,000, second place winners will win RM2,000, third place winners will win RM1,000, and there will also be consolation prizes of RM200 for 5 other winners. Each winner will also win a certificate of participation.

“This contest gives space for a lot of people to show off their talent in photography while also appreciating the city of Shah Alam with photos at exciting places like holiday locations, buildings, monuments, lakes, parks or landscapes,” continued Shahrin Ahmad.

To apply, you can download the application form here. However, I couldn’t find where you can send your entries to. And just as a note, I tried calling the number on the poster above to ask MBSA about where to send entries to, but the number given was the wrong number (the number of the poster—03-55108010—is their fax number, their real number is 03-55105133, but they didn’t pick up.). I tried messaging them online and will update here on their reply.

If you need a little inspiration, check out the photos taken by a photographer who used a drone to take pictures during self isolation. They’re some of the prettiest pictures that show hope even during the pandemic. Zachary from our team also took some gorgeous photos during the MCO in April 2020.
