Was the rumoured Apple March event a ploy to weed out moles within the company?

It’s the 22nd of March 2021 today, and still, there hasn’t been a confirmation of an Apple event anywhere. Previously, an event was predicted for the 23rd of March 2021 (tomorrow), but given Apple’s history of sending out event invites around a week prior, it seems like the March event rumour is false. This is rather surprising, given the widespread nature of the leaked information—so how did this all happen?

According to Jon Prosser, a(nother) notable leakster with a proven track record of providing accurate, otherwise-confidential Apple information, he initially heard from a well-placed source with an impeccable record that the next event by Apple would happen sometime in April 2021. Prosser, however, chose to ignore that information, along with a number of other reputable leaksters.

Have a look at his explainer video below:

Prosser says that the fact that such reputable leaksters got things so clearly wrong, is an indicator that Apple might have intentionally disseminated the false information. In fact, there was never going to be an event in March.

“The reality is we were just flat out wrong. I was wrong, and the fact that we all got the same date from our sources around the same time tells me that Apple directly fed us that information.”

Apple, of course, has a direct interest in protecting the leaking of private information to the press, and the Cupertino-based company even reportedly warned employees against leaking internal information a couple of years ago. At the time, 12 employees were arrested as part of an internal investigation which also saw an additional 17 “leakers” caught.

And if Apple intentionally fed suspected moles within the company with false information, this might be a ploy to weed out the sources of leaks. On the flip side, the company might simply have decided to delay the March event due to unforeseen circumstances, or the myriad of other possible reasons around. We’ll never really know, although Prosser now says that the Apple event will now be happening in April 2021.

If/when this event actually happens, we’re waiting to see a new rumoured new iPad Pro with a mini-LED panel, along with a new successor to the two-year-old iPad Mini. The successor to the AirPods Pro is also possible, while the Apple AirTags have been talked about for quite some time now. However, given the fact that Prosser was one of the leaksters predicting a March event, take this with a pinch of salt, accordingly.

So, what do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below.
