The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has launched the Malaysia Vaccine Support Volunteers (MyVac), a platform to mobilise volunteers for the national COVID-19 immunisation programme. If you want to help out, here’s your chance to sign up as a volunteer.
Malaysia is setting up more than 605 vaccination administration centres nationwide which will provide complete coverage for the whole country. This would include large vaccination centres such as stadiums, assembly halls, sports centres, community centres and government agencies’ offices to clinics and hospitals.
As mentioned by Health Minister, Dr Adham Baba, Malaysia aims to vaccinate as much as 126,000 people per day through more than 600 vaccination centres. Peak vaccinations would be important especially in Phase 3 when Malaysia starts to vaccinate the general adult population from May 2021.
According to Khairy Jamaluddin, Malaysia could complete its vaccination programme by the end of this year if the vaccine supplies arrive according to schedule and Malaysia achieve a peak vaccination rate of 150,000-160,000 per day.
MyVac is looking for both medical and general volunteers. Medical volunteers would be able to assist in administering the vaccines and provide medical support which include managing the sick bay and observation bay. For those without a medical background can sign up as general volunteers to help out in other tasks. This may include symptoms and temperature screening, arranging appointment dates, handling of registrations and managing the waiting room.
The volunteer program is open to all Malaysian citizens who are aged 18 years and above, and are in good health. You must also have no risk of COVID-19 exposure in the past 14 days.
If you do get selected for the volunteer work, you can be assigned either one or two sessions of 6 hours each. According to the FAQ, there will be a token reward of RM25 for 1 session (6 hours) or RM50 for 2 sessions (12 hours). You can select the location and dates that you wish to serve and you should be able to volunteer for a minimum of 8 days per month.
A virtual training will be provided and all volunteers must complete all modules and quizzes. Do note that being a volunteer doesn’t give you priority access to the vaccine and you will be given based on the scheduled phases.
