Limited-edition Malaysia Airlines kebaya doll is already sold out after it launched on 10 March

Malaysia Airlines announced that they have released several limited-edition items for sale on 10 March 2021. The MHartisans collection includes dolls wearing the iconic Malaysia Airlines cabin crew uniform, as well as traditional Sabah and Sarawak costumes. However, as of 12 March at 3pm, the Kebaya and Sabah dolls have sold out.

“While our wheels were down, some of our cabin crew have pursued their other passions and showed us their talents. Today, we are proud to introduce MHartisans, an initiative to support their specially handcrafted items and make them available to everyone via Temptations,” wrote Malaysia Airlines.

The Kebaya Doll stands at 32cm in height, and comes with a doll stand and a gift box. On the doll, the kebaya is hand-sewn from the actual fabric of the Malaysia Airlines uniform—which was considered as one of the most beautiful airline uniforms in the world.

The doll also carries a leather handbag and is styled according to the grooming standards of Malaysia Airlines—which includes the classic French twist hairstyle. It is priced at RM269, but it is already out of stock. However, the page states that the doll is “temporarily” out of stock—so there might be chance that the doll might come back on sale.

Another “temporarily” sold out doll is The Sabah Doll, which stands at 31cm, and comes with a doll stand and gift box. It is dressed in a traditional Kadazan costume—which is one of the ethnic groups indigenous to the state of Sabah in Malaysia.

The blouse (Sinuangga) and the long skirt (Tapi) are made of black velvet fabric and lined with gold trimmings. The accessories on the doll replicate the silver ‘coin’ belt called Himpogot.

The belts around the dolls waist represent a person’s personal wealth. A maximum of three belts are usually used—one around the waist and the other two above and below the Tangkong, which is a three hip-belt made from brass. The doll also has a hairstyle called Tinimbuku.

It’s temporarily sold out, but it’s priced at RM329.

However, if you’re keen on buying a doll, The Sarawak Doll is still in stock! It is dressed in a traditional Orang Ulu costume—which is a group made up of 27 smaller diverse tribal groups in Sarawak, Malaysia. It also wears colourful bead accessories from head to toe, and headgear called Lavung with fern motives—made with beads and faux animal hair. The costume is worn bu the Orang Ulu people on special occasions like weddings and festivals.

The doll stands at 31cm. It also comes with a doll stand and gift box, and is priced at RM389.

Other items for sale in the MHartisans collection include a face-mask holder—which is priced at RM8, an airplane keychain—which is priced at RM25, and a sticker set—priced at RM39. You can visit their store here.

On 2 March, Malaysia Airlines had notified of a data security incident which reveals personal details of its Enrich members. All Enrich members are encouraged to change their passwords as a precautionary measure.
