Leak: Samsung Galaxy A72 to come with 90Hz display, stereo speakers and 30x space zoom

Samsung appears to be offering significant upgrades for this year’s Galaxy A series. You can expect even more flagship features in their new mid-range contenders. Ahead of the official announcement, more details of the Galaxy A72 which include its hardware specs and key features have already surfaced online.

The Samsung Galaxy A72 is expected to come with a 6.7″ Full HD+ AMOLED display which now pushes a higher 90Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it will run on a Snapdragon 720G processor that can be configured with up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage. If you need more storage, the leaked spec-sheet also mentions a microSD card expansion slot that can accept up to 1TB.

In terms of design, it looks somewhat similar to the Galaxy A32 but with a slightly protruding camera bump that has the same body colour. In the camera department, it gets a versatile quad-camera setup which features a 64MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 8MP telephoto camera that offers 3x optical zoom and up to 30x space zoom. There’s also a 5MP shooter for macro shots and a 32MP selfie camera.

What’s interesting is that the A72 will come with built-in stereo speakers which comes with Dolby Atmos enhancement. For greater peace of mind, it will also get IP67-rated water resistance which allows it to be submerged up to 1-metre for up to 30 minutes. The water resistance feature was also revealed on the leaked Galaxy A52 promo materials.

It’s also worth pointing out that this isn’t the first time Samsung had offered stereo speakers in a mid-range device. The Galaxy C9 Pro which was released 4 years ago also had stereo audio playback using the top earpiece and bottom firing speakers. When it comes to water resistance, the Galaxy A8/A8+ from 2018 actually offered a higher rating of IP68.

The Samsung Galaxy A72 is also listed with a huge 5,000mAh battery, which is a 500mAh bump from its predecessor. Like the current crop of Galaxy devices, it also supports 25W fast charging via USB-C. Considering the current Galaxy A71 is priced at RM1,799, the new A72 is expected to be priced higher.
