Former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir has received his COVID-19 vaccination today at Kuah Health Clinic in Langkawi. Turning 96 years old this year, he is currently the oldest person in Malaysia to get the jab.
Tun Mahathir said, as a senior citizen, he encourages more people, not just the elderly, but also the younger generation to get vaccinated. He thanked the staff and the frontliners who are working tirelessly to ensure that the immunisation programme run as smoothly as possible.
Members of Parliament and state lawmakers are considered political frontliners which are included under Phase 1 of the National COVID-19 immunisation programme. The COVID-19 vaccines are offered for free to everyone in Malaysia, which include both citizens and non-citizens.
Apart from using the MySejahtera app, the public can also register to be vaccinated through vaksincovid.gov.my or call in at 1-800-888-828. To reach out to more communities especially those who are residing in rural and remote areas, there are also outreach programmes to get more people registered.
Over 3.2 million people have registered for the vaccination as of 3pm today.
As of yesterday (6th March), a total of 127,608 people in Malaysia have received their first dose of the vaccine. Sarawak still leads with 18,034 people that have received the jab, followed by Pahang with 13,830 people, Selangor with 11,982 people and Kelantan with 11,680 people.
