The Snapdragon 888-powered Nubia Red Magic 6 series has been announced with a crazy 165Hz display

If you’re in the market for a new gaming phone, this might just be the one for you. Nubia has just announced the latest Red Magic device, and this time, it comes with specs that are possibly unrivalled in the mobile gaming scene—thus far, of course. In any case, the Nubia Red Magic 6 series is here!

Sadly, the current, Tencent-partnered release is only for China at the moment, although we’ll keep our ears to the ground for a wider, global release—so remember to keep SoyaCincau.com bookmarked for any new developments on this. In any case, let’s move onto the two models that have just been released: the Nubia Red Magic 6 Pro and the Nubia Red Magic 6.

Nubia Red Magic 6 series specs

Both models—the 6 Pro and the regular 6—are actually pretty similar in terms of specs. However, the Red Magic 6 Pro features a design that’s a little more aggressive, while you also get faster charging at 120W, and higher memory configurations of up to 18GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Besides that, the rest of the phones are remarkably similar, which means that both devices sport 6.8″ FHD+ AMOLED displays that push a staggering 165Hz refresh rate. This is the highest refresh rate I’ve ever seen on smartphone, with the industry norm being 144Hz for mobile gaming devices such as the Asus ROG Phone 3. Nubia says that it’s an adaptive refresh rate too, which means that it can scale down to as low as 30Hz, or as high as 165Hz (if supported).

Both devices also feature a single finger touch sampling rate of up to 500Hz, along with a multi-finger touch sampling rate of up to 360Hz. Additionally, the response time goes low as 8ms.

Qualcomm’s latest processor, the Snapdragon 888 also sits under the hood here, while you also get LPDDR5 RAM and fast UFS3.1 storage. There are also touch-sensitive shoulder triggers—as expected on gaming phone—and you get an active cooling air fan which can spin at up to 18,000 RPM on the standard model, and 20,000 RPM on the Pro model. Plus, both devices get copper heat sinks to further help with keeping temperatures down during long gaming sessions.

The Red Magic 6 series uses a triple-camera setup on the back, made up of a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 2MP macro camera. Nothing particularly special, but I doubt any of you would be buying this to replace your dedicated camera at home; the focus here is on gaming, clearly.

With that in mind, you get a large 5,050mAh battery on the Red Magic 6, and a smaller 4,500mAh battery to sustain the Red Magic 6 Pro. On the latter, however, you get 120W USB-C charging as compared to the 65W speeds on the standard Red Magic 6. Plus, you also get a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is still the best way to connect headphones if you’re looking for the most latency-less experience for gaming.

Official pricing in China is as follows:

Nubia Red Magic 6 – 8GB RAM, 128GB storage – CNY 3,799 (~RM2,389)
Nubia Red Magic 6 – 12GB RAM, 128GB storage – CNY 4,099 (~RM2,578)
Nubia Red Magic 6 – 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – CNY4,399 (~RM2,767)
Nubia Red Magic 6 Pro – 12GB RAM, 128GB storage – CNY 4,399 (~RM2,767)
Nubia Red Magic 6 Pro – 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – CNY 4,799(~RM3,018)
Nubia Red Magic 6 Pro – 16GB RAM, 256GB storage – CNY 5,299 (~RM3,333)
Nubia Red Magic 6 Pro Transparent Edition – 16GB RAM, 256GB storage – CNY 5,599 (~RM3,522)
Nubia Red Magic 6 Pro – 18GB RAM, 512GB storage – CNY 6,599 (~RM4,151)

For now, the phone has only been launched in China. However, there is a global launch page that’s gone live, although there doesn’t appear to be an official date or time listed there just yet. It seems safe to assume a global release is coming, so you can keep up to date with that via the global launch page here.

So, what do you think? Would you get this over other flagship phones if you’re a mobile gamer? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
