Report: Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy A52 5G set to arrive with water resistance

Water resistance, in the past, has been a feature that’s normally reserved for higher-end, pricier smartphones. I personally use a OnePlus 7T Pro “flagship killer” as my daily driver, and even that does not have a single ounce of official water resistance (although its successor, the OnePlus 8 does). However, it appears that water resistance is becoming more common in the mid-range market, with new information now available on Samsung’s upcoming mid-range smartphone: the Galaxy A52 5G.

Ahead of a rumoured March 2021 launch, the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G is set to arrive along with the Galaxy A72 5G. And according to reliable source Evan Blas, the mid-ranger will arrive with water resistance. This assumption was made based on purportedly “official” marketing materials from the Korean company, with Blass noting the splashes of water in the image.

Have a look:

As you can see, the materials also have the word “AWESOME” plastered across the display of the phone, with Blass explaining that four colours will be available at launch: Awesome Black, Awesome White, Awesome Violet, and Awesome Blue. Awesome, it seems, is a word that the marketing team at Samsung really likes, with Blackpink even creating a song for the A51 and A71 smartphones launch in 2020 (you can also watch some of the SoyaCincau.com team dancing along to it, if you’re in the mood).

Other leaked specs so far include a 120Hz refresh rate on a 6.5″ S-AMOLED FHD+ Infinity-O display, while a Snapdragon 750G is rumoured to be powering the device. There could also be a 4,500mAh battery that can be charged at 25W, while you’ll have a quad-camera rear setup made up of a 64MP main shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, two 5MP macro and depth sensors, and a 32MP selfie camera upfront.

As for the design of the Galaxy A52 5G, it looks like Samsung has tweaked the look of the camera bump on the rear to have a more Galaxy S21-like look. That aside, however, the Korean company has yet to announce an official release date, and the information available thus far is not official, so you should keep that in mind.

So, what do you think? It’s worth noting even if this rumour is true, this wouldn’t be the first time that an Galaxy A-series smartphone has been released with water resistance from Samsung. The Galaxy A8, for example, was released back in 2018—three years ago—with IP68 dust and water resistance, at a relatively affordable price from RM1,799.
