Health Minister, Dr Adham Baba has said that 126,000 people will receive the COVID-19 vaccine each day throughout the Malaysia. The vaccinations will be carried out at 600 locations nationwide starting from the end of February 2021.
The Minister said each location will have 7 vaccinators and each of them are able to inoculate 30 people per day. This is equivalent to 210 people getting the jab per location daily. This was revealed to reporters during his visit to inspect a foreign workers’ hostel together with the Johor Health Department in Senai.
The first batch of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be administered from the end of February until April 2021 to frontliners which include healthcare workers, Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysian Police and the Civil Defence Force under Phase 1. Khairy Jamaluddin, the minister in charge of the vaccine co-ordination efforts has confirmed that the Prime Minister will be the first in line to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Phase 2 of the vaccination plan will target high-risk individuals such as senior citizens that are over 60 years old, persons with disabilities and persons with non-communicable diseases. This would include people with heart disease, obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure. The second phase is currently scheduled to run between April to August 2021.
Remaining adults aged 18 years and above will receive the jab in Phase 3 which will start from May 2021 until February 2022. The vaccination program will be administered for free to everyone in Malaysia. The government has recently announced that foreign citizens will also be vaccinated for free and it will include undocumented migrants to achieve herd immunity.
The COVID-19 vaccination program isn’t mandatory and you’ll have to register your consent in order to get it beginning in March 2021. Khairy has recently revealed 5 ways you can register for the vaccination which include the MySejahtera app.
Dr Adham Baba said the Ministry of Health will also introduce a task force to assist with manual registrations for the vaccination so that the recipients don’t have to wait too long at the vaccination counter. He added that all they need is a consent to the vaccination and the Ministry will ensure that they will be given a proper schedule on when to come and get inoculated, and to prevent everyone from coming at the same time.
