XOX Extra Syox prepaid offers 21GB of data for RM30/month but there’s a catch

XOX has introduced a new prepaid offering where users can enjoy more high-speed data including hotspot for only RM30/month. XOX says the new offering is aimed at assisting Malaysians by enabling them to work or study from home without breaking the bank.

Syox 30 provides you with 21GB of high-speed data, 10GB of basic internet, the ability to use it for hotspot plus 50 minutes of voice calls. However, do note that the high-speed quota is actually split over 30 days and you’re limited to 700MB daily. If you hit the daily quota limit, your plan will utilise the slower Basic Internet until your quota refreshes at midnight.

For those that need to use more than 700MB daily, you can purchase data add-ons at RM3 for 1GB, RM5 for 2GB, RM6 for 3GB and RM8 for 5GB via the Black app. These add-ons are only valid until 11:59pm on the date of purchase.

Voucher available during Syox Happy Hour

The Extra Syox offering isn’t your typical prepaid plan. According to the FAQ, it is actually a prepaid voucher which is only offered during Syox Happy Hour on random days starting from 21st January 2021. Users can purchase multiple vouchers which are valid for up to 12 months. You can activate your voucher whenever you need it from the Rewards tab in the XOX Black app.

XOX says it offers multiple hotspot connection which claims to be a factor that differentiates themselves from the rest. It added that this would allow you to share the hotspot to as many devices as you want. From what we know, most telcos do not actually limit the number of devices for the hotspot except for Unifi Mobile and Digi which mentions a maximum limit of 5 devices. Typically, the limit is due to the default hotspot settings on the smartphone.

As shown above, the FAQ also says it offers “unlimited hotspot” but this is conflicting with the next item which mentions that you can share with everyone as long as there’s active data available. The “unlimited” mentioned here is likely to be referring to the number of devices as your ability to hotspot at high-speeds is still capped at 700MB per day.
