University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM), formerly known as University Hospital, is now raising funds on Lazada to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE). For those who are interested to contribute, you may visit the “Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya” store on Lazada to make a contribution.

The platform accepts a minimum of RM50 and you may contribute up to RM500. The initiative is part of LazadaForGood campaign to support our COVID-19 frontliners.

Several netizens have expressed concerns if the donation drive is a scam. Universiti Malaysia has confirmed that this is a legit fundraising exercise by the University Malaya Medical Centre.

Just to clarify, this is a legit fundraising program by UMMC. For further information, please visit https://t.co/9cEPMgT2Lw.

In addition, Lazada says it will contribute an additional RM1 for every RM4 donated on their platform for participating NGOs. According to the T&C, the extra top-up by Lazada is capped at a maximum of RM200,000 which is equivalent to RM1,000,000 in collected donations.

Besides PPUM, you can also contribute to responseMalaysia, Merci Malaysia, Hospis Malaysia, The Lost Food Project and more. If you wish to use your donation for tax deduction, just make sure that your “Billing Name” is the same as your IC. An official donation receipt will be issued by email. You can learn more about getting tax relief for donation here.
