Apple is reportedly working on probably the biggest iMac design change in almost 10 years

According to Bloomberg, Apple is planning a redesign of its iMac this year. This will probably be the most significant Apple product revamp since 2012, and it will likely resemble the Pro Display XDR.

Like the Pro Display XDR, the new models will slim down the thick black borders around the screen. It will also get rid of the big metal area at the bottom and have a flat back—moving away the current iMac’s curved back. It will also feature the next generation of Apple’s own Mac processors—first debuted in last year’s M1 MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini.

Apple is also planning to launch two versions to replace the existing 21.5-inch and 27-inch models this year. And if it’s going to be closer to looking like the Pro Display XDR, it might also feature an adjustable rotating stand that can make the screen move between landscape and portrait.

The current range of iMac models with a Retina display retain the same design since the 2012 iMac Slim. The newest iMac focused on increased speed, an improved webcam, and also added an option for a matte/nano-texture display coating.

Additionally, Apple is working on a pair of new Mac Pro—Apple’s most powerful workstation computers that don’t come with a screen. One of the Mac Pros will be a direct update to the current version, and will continue to use Intel processors and the same design as the one launched in 2019. The second version will use Apple’s own processors and be less than half the size of the current Mac Pro.

And lastly, Apple has started early development of a lower-priced version of the Pro Display XDR. The price currently starts at RM19,999 for the standard glass version, and a whopping RM25,999 for the Pro XDR Display with nano-texture glass.
