After being banned, Donald Trump is now back on Twitter

Donald Trump is back on Twitter, and the narrative has certainly changed since the U.S. President was suspended from the social media for reportedly tweeting support for supporters who attacked the U.S. Capitol. Some of his Tweets were earlier removed, along with a couple of posts on Facebook—including a video that referred to the election results as “fraudulent”.

But he’s back! Trump’s recently tweeted an address that—while stopping short of actually admitting defeat—called for a “smooth, orderly, and seamless transition of power”.

Earlier, Trump’s account was locked after supporters broke into the U.S. Capitol, with Twitter saying that the ban would be lifted after certain offending Tweets had been deleted (and a 12-hour wait). According to The Verge, a spokesperson for the company has confirmed that the relevant Tweets have been removed from Trump’s account.

In any case, now that he’s back on Twitter, it’s also worth mentioning that Trump is still subject to future bans—or even a permanent suspension from the platform—if he continues to share Tweets that violate Twitter’s policies. Once he leaves office, the president will also lose “public interest” protections for his account, which only applies to certain public figures and world leaders.

Plus, Trump has been “indefinitely” banned from Facebook and Instagram (for at least the next two weeks), with founder Mark Zuckerberg explaining the decision in a lengthy post:

For now, Trump remains as the current President of the United States, but President-elect Joe Biden will take office on the 20th of January 2021.
