Lenovo is joining the chorus of tech companies announcing new products during this year’s virtual Consumer Electronics Show (CES). At this year’s trade show, the company announced several new IdeaPad laptops that include one with 5G connectivity and a tablet made to meet current work and study from home needs.
Lenovo IdeaPad 5G and 4G LTE
Lenovo introduced two new always connected ultra-portable laptops, one with 5G and the other with 4G LTE connectivity. The IdeaPad 5G comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform and Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 Modem-RF system.
According to Lenovo, the 5G connected laptop allows users to download movies, make calls and send emails at speeds up to 10 times faster than 4G.
The IdeaPad 4G LTE variant meanwhile is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8c compute platform and uses a Snapdragon X24 LTE modem to connect to 4G networks.
Besides that both the IdeaPad 5G and 4G LTE models share plenty of similarities in terms of design. They feature a thin and lightweight design, weighing 1.2kg and measure 14.9mm thin.
The laptops sport a 14″ Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS display that is 300 nits bright and boasts a 100% sRGB colour gamut. Adding to that, the display has slim borders that offer a 90% screen-to-body ratio.
Spec wise, both models offer up to 8GB LPDDR4X memory and 512GB of PCIe SSD storage. For graphics, the two models boast Qualcomm Adreno 680 graphics.
The PC maker said the two always connected IdeaPads come with a 51WHr battery that offers up to 20 hours of battery life with video playback. Sound is handled by twin speakers with Dolby Audio Plus, and it even has a dual array microphone for online calls.
According to Lenovo, the IdeaPad 5G and 4G LTE variant are expected to be available in select markets, but the company did not confirm the device’s pricing or whether Malaysia is one of those markets.
Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro
The IdeaPad 5i Pro comes with an all-metal chassis body with a choice of Cloud Grey or Storm Grey hue. It is available in 14″ or 16″ size. For the 14″ model you can max it up to a 2.8K resolution (16:10) IPS display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 400 nits of brightness. As for the 16″ version, you can max it up to a 2.5K resolution (16:10) IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 350 nits brightness.
The IdeaPad 5i Pro weighs 1.45kg for the 14″ model and 2kg for the larger 16″ variant.
Specs wise, the IdeaPad 5i Pro can be configured up to an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor paired with up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 1TB SSD PCIe M.2 of storage. For graphics, you can choose to configure up to an Nvidia MX450 GPU.
The 14″ variant offers a 56.5WHr battery and Rapid Charge Boost while the 16″ model has a larger 75WHr battery that supports Rapid Charge Express which allows the laptop to gain back up to three hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging via a 65W adapter. In addition, the 16″ variant comes with a Thunderbolt 4 port.
According to Lenovo, the 16″ variant is expected to be available in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) from March 2021 onwards with a starting price of Euro 899 (RM4,388). As for the 14″ model, it is expected to be available in EMEA in March 2021 at a starting price of Euro 699 (RM3,412).
Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro
The IdeaPad 5 Pro is essentially the AMD-powered alternative to the IdeaPad 5i Pro. It is also available in 14″ or 16″ sizes that can be configured up to a 2.8K resolution display.
Like the IdeaPad 5i Pro, the IdeaPad 5 Pro line comes in an all-metal chassis and a choice of either a Cloud Grey or Storm Grey. The laptop weighs between 1.45kg to 2kg depending on the size of the model you choose.
Under the hood, the laptop comes with AMD’s latest Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors and paired up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM, up to 1TB SSD PCIe M.2 of storage and up to the next-generation Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs.
Battery wise, the IdeaPad 5 Pro’s battery options are similar to the Ideapad 5i Pro’s and is dependent on the variant you choose.
Lenovo said the 16-inch IdeaPad 5 Pro laptop will start at USD 1149.99 (RM4,625) and is it is expected to be available in the US from May 2021 onwards. Meanwhile, the 14″ variant is set to be available in EMEA from March 2021 onwards and has a starting price of Euro 799 (RM3,900)
Lenovo Tab P11
Lenovo also announced the Tab P11 tablet, a device it billed as the ideal work and study from home tool. The tablet sports a dual-tone finish in either Slate Grey or Platinum Grey and boasts an aluminium-alloy chassis.
The tablet features an 11″ IPS LCD touchscreen with a 2K (2000 x 1000) resolution and offers 400nits of brightness. Under the hood, the Tab P11 comes powered by a Snapdragon 662 Mobile platform with LTE connectivity and can be configured up to 6GB of RAM.
Lenovo rates the tablet to last up to 15 hours of usage with a full charge. In addition, it comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office apps as well as other productivity apps from Google Play.
Speaking of work, the Tab P11 can be equipped with an optional ultra-thin Keyboard Pack with a built-in trackpad that snaps into place whenever you need to be productive. It also has a magnetic stand cover with an integrated kickstand to help prop up the tablet when used on a table.
It comes with an 8MP front facing camera that will come in handy for video calls or for remote learning. Lenovo has included a Smart Privacy feature that blurs the background during video calls.
The tablet also features a kids mode called Kids Space from Google that features content like apps, books and videos designed for kids under the age of nine.
There are other optional accessories for the tablet including a Lenovo Smart Charging Station 2 that enables hands-free movie watching and stable charging while docked.
There’s also the Lenovo Precision Pen 2 that has a battery capacity of 60mAh that offers up to 200 hours and can be charged via USB-C.
Lenovo said the Tab P11 will have a starting price of USD 229.99 (RM925) and is available now in the US.
