COVID-19: New record high with 3,027 new cases in Malaysia today, 1,103 reported in Johor

Malaysia records 3,027 new COVID-19 cases today which is a new record high, beating yesterday’s reported 2,593 new cases. This brings the total number of infections to 128,465. There are 8 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 521.

The Ministry of Health has reported 2,145 new recoveries and a total of 102,723 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 80.0% while the mortality rate is now 0.4%.

There are currently 25,221 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 142 are in ICU while 63 require respiratory support.

Out of the 3,027 new cases today, 6 are imported while 3,021 are transmitted locally. Johor recorded the most with 1,103 new cases, followed by Selangor with 706 cases, Sabah with 493 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 316 cases.

Health D-G, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had tweeted that based on the daily new cases, the expected R0 infectivity rate from 4th January to 31st May 2021 is expected to be around 1.1 and 1.2. At 1.2, Malaysia could record 5,000 new daily cases in the 3rd week of February and as high as 8,000 new daily cases in the 3rd week of March 2021.

The Ministry of Health has identified 9 new clusters today. This include Senai Murni cluster in Johor, Hartamas construction site cluster in Selangor, Damai Pelangi cluster in Selangor, Jalan Ipoh construction site in Kuala Lumpur, Rungkup cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Desa Setapak cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Jaya cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Ziarah Putra cluster in Putrajaya and Keranji Tabuan cluster in Sarawak.

A total of 52 active clusters have reported additional COVID-19 cases today. The Bukit Pasir cluster reported the most with 779 new cases, followed by Dataran Utas cluster with 156 cases and Beringin cluster with 101 new cases.
