In case you missed it, the free 1GB daily data offer is still available for redemption from participating telcos. The free data for productivity and online learning use under the PENJANA intiative was supposed to end on 31st December 2020 has been extended by a couple of months.

As announced by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Saifuddin Abdullah, the free 1GB offer will be continued until the new Jaringan Prihatin program commences sometime in March 2021. The new program will provide subsidies worth RM180 for eligible B40 individuals as announced during Budget 2021. Those who are eligible can use the subsidy to offset the purchase of new 4G phones or for subscription of data services at RM15/month.

Do note that the free data can’t be used for all usage. Under the revised initiative, the data is not applicable for Gaming, Music, Social and Video platforms. Below is the list of apps, services and websites that are not covered and it will utilise your existing data quota:

According to Digi and Maxis, the free data is offered until 31st March 2021, while Celcom states that it will be available until 28th February 2021. You can redeem your free data through your telco’s self-care app, SMS or UMB codes.

To help students who are taking their SPM and STPM exams soon, 5 telcos will be introducing a new prepaid pass that would offer 15GB of data at RM20/month. These passes will be available from 6th January and the full details will be revealed soon.
