Shopee Malaysia has announced that Shopee Pay eWallet now supports DuitNow QR. It added that they are the first eCommerce platform to support the national QR standard that’s managed by PayNet.
With this unified QR system, users of participating platforms can make payment or transfer funds across different platforms by scanning a single DuitNow QR code. For merchants, this would eliminate the need of displaying different QR codes and they can just use one DuitNow QR to accept payments from participating banks and eWallets.
On the Shopee app, users can use their mobile wallet to make payments at physical stores that display the DuitNow QR code in addition to paying for online purchases on Shopee. Users will soon be able to seamlessly top up their wallets with instant fund transfer service that will be introduced in June 2021.
As part of their promo, Shopee Pay users can get cashback of up to RM5 with a minimum spend of RM15 in a single transaction via DuitNow QR. The campaign will be running from today, 15th December until 31st January 2021. It’s currently available at 21 participating merchants that have a total of 518 outlets nationwide.
Some of the special offers available for DuitNow QR transactions on ShopeePay include RM1 hand sanitisers from Sunway Pharmacy and RM2 Black Whale Mini Whale Milk Tea. You can view the list of ShopeePay cashback promos here.
The DuitNow ecosystem currently covers 14 banks which include Alliance Bank, AmBank, Bank Muamalat, Bank of China, CIMB, Citibank, Hong Leong Bank, HSBC, ICBC, Maybank, Public Bank, RHB, Standard Chartered and UOB. According to Shopee, they have recently appointed UOB Malaysia to facilitate their end of day settlement with other banks.
GrabPay was announced as the first eWallet to support DuitNow QR but it isn’t commercially available for consumers just yet. Touch ‘n Go eWallet support is expected to go live on the 1st January 2021 according to the listing on DuitNow QR. Other eWallet players that are coming soon include FavePay and BigPay.
