Samsung teaser videos confirm Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra design

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series is expected to be announced as early as January 2021. Ahead of the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, a couple of teaser videos of the new flagship phones have already surfaced online which confirms not just the name but the exterior design of the new trio.

@MaxWinebach of Android Police has shared a couple of vertical videos which appears to be store demos meant for the new devices. There’s one video for each model and we can confirm that Samsung will continue to retain the same S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra naming convention as its predecessor.

While the current Note 20 series features a copperish Mystic Bronze as its hero colour, Samsung seems to be using violet as its new hero colour for the upcoming series. This is the same shade of purple that we’ve seen in the leaked Galaxy Buds Pro renders.

The Galaxy S21 is the smallest of the lot and it is said to come with a flat 6.3″ display and a triple-camera setup. As shown in the video, it features a new camera bump with 3 cameras arranged vertically on a slightly raised bump with 2 rounded corners. What’s interesting is the dual-tone colour as it has a purple body while the camera bump and frame has a bronze finish.

The bigger Galaxy S21+ features the same design as well but the screen is expected to be bigger at 6.7″. It also gets a flat display and a similar triple-camera bump as the smaller model. The colour scheme is also similar and the video also shows a dual-tone purple-bronze exterior.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G

The top-of-the-line S21 Ultra comes with a huge camera bump just like the S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra. You can see 5 holes which is expected to house a 108MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and two 10MP telephoto cameras that can do 10x and 3x zoom. The 5th hole is said to be a Laser AF module.

Since this is the most premium model, we are guessing that Samsung may use a ceramic back since it’s shown here with an all black exterior. Unlike the smaller S21 and S21+, the Ultra’s screen has dual-curved edges and we reckon it will definitely push a high fresh rate of at least 120Hz with Quad HD+ resolution. The screen is also the largest and it’s expected the retain the same 6.9″ size as the current S20 Ultra.

The new devices were recently seen in live photos and it matches with the leaked teaser videos. For 2021, it appears that Samsung is taking a page out of Apple’s book by not bundling a power adapter in the box. The Korean smartphone maker had initially mocked Apple for not including a charger with the iPhone 12. Eventually, Samsung has taken its social posts down after it became clear that they too are likely to do the same thing.

Since Malaysia is a key market for Samsung, expect these devices to land shortly after the global launch. The S21 series are expected to run on either a Snapdragon 888 or an Exynos 2100.
