Samsung Galaxy S21: Leaks reveal full camera details for the entire range

So, the next blockbuster smartphone launch is expected soon—as early as January 2021, if rumours are to be believed. The Samsung Galaxy S21 will be the latest in a long line of S series flagships, and among other things, the Korean company is expected to finally introduce S Pen support on a non-Note smartphone for the first time (along with the Galaxy Z Fold 3).

But as anticipation heats up ahead of launch, information is beginning to trickle down from some reputable sources. Previously, leaked information revealed that we would only get a 120Hz display on the Galaxy S21 Ultra (not the S21 and S21+), while a OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077-styled camera bump was spotted in some renders separately.

Now, new information seemingly confirms the gigantic camera bump on the back of the Galaxy S21, along with information on the sensors housed in that rear module. Plus, we have “real world” photos of the Galaxy S21 Ultra and S21+ to gawk at. Here’s what you need to know.

Galaxy S21 series cameras

Ice Universe recently revealed a detailed look at the rear camera module on the range-topping Galaxy S21 Ultra, with three cameras sitting alongside laser autofocus (no 3D ToF sensor here). According to the leakster, the main camera sensor on the Galaxy S21 Ultra uses the new ISOCELL HM3 sensor with 0.8µm pixels (9-in-1-binning), which reportedly offers 12 percent better light sensitivity compared to the HM1 sensor.

Meanwhile, there are two telephoto lenses—one with a 10MP sensor that offers 3x optical zoom, and a folded telephoto shooter that can do 10x optical zoom. With the main sensor probably supporting lossless digital zoom as well, it seems likely that the Galaxy S21 Ultra will live up to the Space Zoom of the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Rounding that off is a 12MP ultra-wide camera with an IMX563 sensor, which looks like the only Sony sensor on the entire rear module.

Meanwhile, a separate leak claims that the Galaxy S21+ will feature triple camera setup as well: a 12MP main shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 64MP telephoto lens. This setup will supposedly be shared by the regular Galaxy S21, as well.

“Real world” images of the series

Sources have also shared leaked images of the Galaxy S21 range, with Ice Universe posting this side-by-side look at glass screen protectors of the series:

From a separate source, we also have a look at a purported “real world” photo of the S21 Ultra and S21+ side by side. As you can see, the S21+ misses out on the large camera bump, and it looks like it misses out on laser autofocus, and a second telephoto lens (as mentioned above).

As I wrote above, Samsung hasn’t confirmed a specific date for the Galaxy S21 launch just yet. However, we do expect an announcement sometime during the first few months of 2021, and we also expect to receive more information from the vine as we get closer to a launch. In the meantime, it’s worth noting that Ice Universe has been a reliable source of pre-release info for Samsung smartphones in the past, although nothing is official as of yet.
