Galaxy Buds Pro: Samsung’s answer to the AirPods Pro might be coming in January with ANC

The last pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds were rather hit-and-miss, with some users enjoying the bean-like design of the TWS headphones—while others, like Ray, called it “interesting, but not very practical“. Thus far, these have also been Samsung’s only earbuds with active noise cancelling (ANC) tech, although that might now change with the Galaxy Buds Pro.

According to MySmartPrice, the next earbuds from Samsung will be called the Galaxy Buds Pro. The name and model information was spotted in an Indonesia Telecom listing, while SamMobile has also confirmed that the Galaxy Buds Pro will arrive along with the upcoming Galaxy S21 (name not confirmed) sometime in January 2021.

The Pro isn’t replacing the Galaxy Buds Live, however. Instead, these will be the natural successor to the Galaxy Buds+, with a similar in-ear design to boot. However, a significant upgrade here will be the active noise cancelling (ANC) capabilities of the Pro, while there will supposedly be an improved Ambient mode as well.

Theoretically, this design should improve ANC on the Buds Pro, because the tips of in-ear headphones often provide a better seal for most users. On the Buds Live, the bean-shaped earbuds still have ANC, but the design also means that there is some inevitable sound leakage.

The main competitor to the Buds Pro would probably be the AirPods Pro. Depending on pricing, I’m guessing that the Galaxy Buds Pro will be the top-of-the-line option in the Galaxy TWS lineup, and with ANC and a more conventional design, it’ll be interesting to see how it fares against Apple’s premium TWS option. Of course, a lot of the AirPods’ success is also down to the seamless integration with iOS, so we’ll need wait for more information on Samsung’s end regarding this aspect.

At the moment, Samsung hasn’t confirmed the launch date for the Galaxy S21, but we do expect an announcement some time in January of next year. It’s also possibility that Samsung decides to include some sort of a promotion package with the Galaxy Buds Pro for purchasers of the next S-series smartphone, but that’s an educated guess for now.

So, what do you think? This might be the best Galaxy Buds yet—at least, it seems that way to me. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
