In a bid to stay afloat, Zoo Negara extends its animal adoption program to Lazada and Shopee

In a recent Bernama report, Zoo Negara Zoology, Veterinary & Giant Panda Conservation Centre Director Dr Mat Naim Ramli said that they only have enough emergency funds for the next three months. A big part of that is due to the CMCO, which has made it difficult for the zoo to meet monthly operating costs—that totals up to around RM1 million.

Now, the zoo has announced a new “Adopt an Animal” initiative to help with food, enrichment, and veterinary care for the animals. The zoo has partnered with Ticket2u to create a “new way” to collect donations, so you can simply choose an animal to “adopt” on the official website.

What’s interesting is that you can also “adopt” the animals via e-commerce sites, Shopee and Lazada. Pricing starts at RM25, and if you complete your purchase over Shopee/Lazada, your e-cert will be emailed to your registered email. Meanwhile, if you pay via Ticket2U, you’ll be able to download your e-cert immediately.

For adoption packages that are priced at RM50 and above, adopters will receive acknowledgement on Zoo Negara’s official website. You’ll also get one Zoo Negara voucher which will offer free entry for a single child, along with one paying adult. More details on the adoption packages are available in the image above.

As you probably already know, you aren’t actually adopting zoo animals to take home—that’d be illegal. Instead, the campaign is a way for Zoo Negara to get the financial support they need to take care of the animals. And with the aforementioned financial issues already faced, the zoo is calling on animal lovers to help the Zoo Negara animals family.
