The PS5 may be able to run on WQHD monitors, but there is one big trade off

The PlayStation 5 (PS5) is the latest next-generation game console that is made to play games in 4K resolution. But there is some good news if you own a WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution) screen. Although Sony stated that the PS5 is currently does not support WQHD screens, that might not be entirely true as one user found out.

Screen Rant reported that Twitter user, 1AxelGaming1 managed to get their PS5 to run perfectly fine on a WQHD screen. But instead of outputting at a lower resolution, 1AxelGaming1’s PS5 stated it was displaying at an upscaled resolution of 2160p. Though that may sound great, it looks like the PS5 was only capable of outputting at 60fps instead of running it at 120fps like most PS5 games. While this may not be a big deal for most gamers, this may prove to be an issue for those who play competitively and need the high screen refresh rate to stay ahead of the competition.

Before you rush out to get a PS5 to play on a lower resolution monitor, keep in mind that this has only been confirmed in this one specific instance. This does not mean that this will be the case for all monitors.

At the moment, it is difficult for many gamers and critics to test how true this really is as it is still difficult to get a hold of a PS5 at the moment as the console was sold out almost immediately when it opened for pre-order in Malaysia. For now, take this information with a pinch of salt because it may be awhile before more users can test if this feature truly works for them.

But if you have the budget and want the best experience for your new console, which TVs work the best with the PS5? You can start with Sony’s ‘Ready for PlayStation 5’ TVs that include the Bravia X90H 4K HDR Full Array LED and Bravia Z8H 8K HDR Full Array LED models.

So what do you think? Are you excited to try your new PS5 with a WQHD screen just to see how it runs? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
