Leak: Apple will release a “christmas surprise” soon, possibly the AirPods Studio

Apple only recently launched the iPhone 12 series, but as it turns out, it might not be the last new release from the Cupertino-based company in 2020. According to a Tweet from notable leakster L0vetodream, we’ll be getting a “Christmas surprise” from Apple soon—plus, the release will be good for the winter, whatever that means.

Not much else is available in way of information, although the leakster claims the release will be exclusive to winter. Perhaps the company is planning a holiday promotion, just like the Apple Card cashback period back in December of 2019—although this wouldn’t really match up to the “good for winter” bit.

There are two hotly-anticipated products that have yet to be announced, however. The AirPods Studio and AirTags. The former, in particular, has been rumoured for awhile now, and code found in the iOS 14.3 beta reportedly seemingly suggests that Apple is prepping for the over-ear headphones.

Meanwhile, AirTags are also a possibility. They’re supposed to work by being attached to items, with integration with the Find My app on iPhones and other Apple devices.

Or, it’s entirely possible that Apple releases some sort of a festive-themed mobile device. However, this would be a difficult move from a logistics standpoint, even if a Christmas-themed iPhone would undoubtedly be a popular (and expensive) Christmas present for your loved ones. Perhaps an AirPods Studio announcement is the likeliest scenario, but even then, it’s purely an educated guess.

In any case, the AirPods Studio would be the company’s first over-ear headphones (Beats don’t count). No technical details have been revealed yet—Apple hasn’t even confirmed its existence—but the AirPods Studio will probably feature a lot of the same functionality that the AirPods Pro have. This includes ANC technology, wireless charging, and the popular Transparency Mode.

Perhaps it’s “good for winter” because over-ear headphones resemble ear muffs? That’s the best guess I have for now. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
