Ismail Sabri: Updated CMCO SOP now allows 3 people per vehicle

When the Conditional Movement Control Order was reintroduced, the authorities have set a limit of 2 people per vehicle. After receiving numerous complaints and feedback from the public, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that the government is now allowing up to 3 people from the same household to travel in one car.

During today’s briefing, Ismail Sabri mentioned that there are occasions where the police have used their discretion to allow more passengers. This includes the need to send elderly parents to clinics for health emergencies or for married couples to travel with their children who are too young to be left at home.

However, the police have provided feedback that it can be tough to make a decision. On top of that, there are also demands from the public to provide a little bit of leeway.

Therefore, the National Security Council has agreed to increase the permitted number of total passengers to 3 per vehicle. This ruling is similar to eHailing and taxis where a driver can ferry up to a maximum of 2 passengers, which is a total of 3 in one car.

Prior to this, the Senior Minister had said that individuals that run a family business may apply for permission to carry more passengers in one car. The authorisation letter can be applied at their nearest police station.
