Ismail Sabri: MySejahtera check-in not required at the petrol pump

The question of whether MySejahtera check-in is required when purchasing fuel at the petrol station has been answered once and for all. During today’s National Security Council briefing, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has confirmed that MySejahtera check-in is not required when payment is made at the pump. This includes payments made by credit card, debit card and mobile app.

He clarified that payments at the store will require MySejahtera check-in and it also includes those who withdraw cash at the ATM machine. This is due to face to face interaction and there are also other customers in the premises which are considered as close contact. Individuals intending to use the prayer room and toilets also required to check-in via MySejahtera.

The Senior Minister also repeated that if there’s no contact with other individuals, there’s no need to register with MySejahtera. Just drive to the pump, make payment, refuel and leave. He also added that contactless payment made outside the store window through the pigeon hole do not require check-in. However, he added that the situation is different if there’s a queue.

For customers that stop at the station to pump air for their motorbike or car tyres are also not required to check in. However, customers sending their vehicles to service at the petrol station workshop, must register themselves with the app. The same rule applies to manual car wash but it is exempted for auto car wash if payment is made through their car window.

During today’s briefing, he said there’s already an SOP for petrol station premises but there’s confusion of whether the premise is limited to the store or it covers the entire compound of the station. He hope all parties are now clear with the detailed SOP. If there are any doubts, the public may refer to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs’ website as they will provide a detailed guideline for petrol stations.
