The DJI Mini 2 flies into town with improved range and 4K capabilities from RM1,899

The DJI Mini 2 has been launched! A couple of days ago, the successor to DJI‘s popular Mavic Mini was spotted on sale at U.S. retailer Best Buy—and now, DJI has confirmed the launch of the DJI Mini 2, along with some significant improvements. And yes, the company’s latest portable drone is called the DJI Mini 2, not the Mavic Mini 2.

Regardless of naming choices, the Mini 2 still looks more-or-less identical to the Mavic Mini, and even has the exact same weight of 249g. However, one of the biggest improvements that you’re getting is DJI’s OcuSync 2.0 transmission tech—which offers an increased range of 150 percent (10km) compared to its predecessor.

Meanwhile, motors on the drone have also been upgraded to offer 31 minutes of flight time, as well as faster acceleration and speed. A top speed of 57.6 km/h is promised, while the drone should be able to handle wind speeds of up to 38.6km/h.

Additionally, videos can now be shot at up to 4K at 30 fps at 100Mbps, which is an improvement over the 2.7k resolution on the original Mavic Mini. And if you shoot at Full HD, you’ll be able to record at 60 fps. Another huge plus is the fact that you can shoot images in RAW format, as opposed to just JPEG, which will offer more editing flexibility for advanced users.

Of course, you get the three-axis gimbal which should offer relatively shake-free footage, and 2x lossless zoom is supported when shooting in 1080p resolution. DJI has also included the AEB Triple Shot feature, which basically does auto exposure bracketing by merging three images of varying exposure for a single, “vivid” image.

Other specs include a 1/2.3″ sensor that can take 12MP images, while you also get pre-set shooting modes such as DJI’s QuickShots, Panoramas, and different image modes for different scenarios. There’s also GEO fencing features to keep the Mini 2 out of restricted no-fly zones, along with Return to Home and Altitude Lock.

Price and availability

These improvements come at an increased price, however. The DJI Mini 2 is now available in Malaysia in two options, with official pricing as follows:

DJI Mini 2 (standard package) – RM1,899
DJI Mini 2 (Fly More Combo) – RM2,499
