According to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the state have contributed the vehicles to faciliate patrols and surveillance in coastal and bush areas. He said that the electric bikes were selected as they are rechargeable, easy to carry around and it is almost as fast as a motorcycle. On top of that, the eBikes can be used on the beach which is suitable for patrol activities along the coast. The 8 jet skis will enhance sea patrols to monitor boats that may carry illegal immigrants into the country.

He emphasised the importance of border patrol as it is a potential source of COVID-19 transmission. He shared that some illegal migrants may potentially carry the disease and it could spread in prisons when they are detained.

During the handover ceremony, the Menteri Besar has also handed over 100 units of personal protective equipment (PPE), 500 face shields, 300 pairs of gloves, 200 gowns, 500 face masks, 500 bottles of hand sanitiser and 200 aprons to the Selangor Prisons Department.

Malaysia currently has a total of 29,441 positive COVID-19 cases and 246 deaths recorded as of yesterday. Among the 801 new cases reported yesterday, Sabah continues to record the most with 546 cases, followed by Selangor with 89 cases.
