The highly anticipated Proton X50 is finally launching this coming Tuesday. Due to the current pandemic situation, the new compact SUV will be announced virtually through a Facebook livestream.
Ahead of its official launch, the carmaker has released four five new X50 promo videos which covers design, performance, safety and its infortainment system. Some of the key features shown include N95 cabin filter, remote engine start, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and auto park assist.
The vehicle shown in the promo videos is the top-of-the-line X50 flagship that comes with a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo direct fuel injection engine which produces 177PS (175hp) and 255NM of torque. The flagship model is the only variant that gets the Advanced Driver Assistance System with Level 2 autonomous driving features. On top of that, the variant also offers dual-tone exterior and a panoramic sunroof.
For the lower 3 variants such as Standard, Executive and Premium, it comes with a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo port injection engine that produces less power at 150PS (148hp) and 226NM of torque. All four variants get a wet clutch 7-speed DCT that comes with manual mode selection.
Unfortunately, we don’t get paddle shifters that were included in the Geely Binyue. However, the X50 does come with rear air-con vents and dual USB charging ports for rear occupants, which isn’t offered in the Binyue or Coolray that are sold in other markets.
Another major difference is that the higher 2 variants (Premium and Flagship) get 18″ alloy wheels and a larger 10.25″ infotainment display powered by Geely’s GKUI. The lower 2 models (Standard and Executive) settle for slightly smaller 17″ alloy wheels and a smaller 8″ screen for its infortainment system. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not supported.
The Proton X50 launch is taking place at 10.50am on 27th October via Proton’s Facebook page. This is the moment most people have been waiting for as Proton will finally reveal the price for all 4 variants. Based on the claimed bookings received, it looks like there’s going to be a long waiting list for the new SUV.
