COVID-19: 847 new cases today, active cases now over 8,000

Malaysia has recorded 847 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 23,804. There are 5 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 204.

The Ministry of Health has reported 486 new recoveries and a total of 15,417 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 64.77% while the mortality rate is 0.86%.

There are currently 8,183 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 90 are in ICU while 29 require respiratory support.

Out of the 847 new cases today, 5 are imported while 842 are transmitted locally. Sabah reported the most with 578 cases, followed by Selangor with 137 cases, Negeri Sembilan with 38 cases, Labuan with 29 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 23 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 6 new clusters today. In Sabah, there’s the Tinusa and Sauh cluster which has 33 and 17 positive cases respectively, while Selangor has Jambu and Bah Mutiara cluster which recorded 15 and 10 positive cases respectively. In addition, there’s also the Sofi cluster with a total of 34 cases in Negeri Sembilan and Umboo cluster in Melaka with 4 cases.

As of today, a total of 39 active COVID-19 clusters have reported new cases. The Kepayan cluster recorded the most with 155 cases followed by the new Sofi cluster with 33 cases. The Utama cluster currently has the most cases in Selangor with a total of 206 positive cases so far and it has 6 generations of infections.
