COVID-19: Proton confirms 49 more employees tested positive, all from Engineering Division

After Proton reported a COVID-19 case in their R&D department in Shah Alam last week, the Malaysian car maker has revealed 49 more employees have also tested positive. The new detected employees are all from the Engineering Division in Shah Alam and have been reported to the authorities.

As a precautionary measure, all non-essential staff at the Shah Alam facility are requested to work from home. Proton says it has been adhering to official protocols and is continuing its efforts with more stringent action to prevent further spread. The company added that contact tracing is ongoing and their COVID-19 team is monitoring the situation closely.

According to Proton’s statement, the Centre of Service Excellence (COSE) and showroom are disinfected hourly and all customer facing personnel follow a rigorous procedure. They added that the safety of all Proton staff, customers and Malaysians is of the utmost importance to the company.

Malaysia has recorded 865 new cases today. Among the top 3 active clusters reported today is the Kepayan Prison cluster in Sabah with 135 new cases (out of 184), Auto cluster which covers Selangor and Negeri Sembilan with 41 new cases (out of 50) and Saguking cluster in Labuan with 30 new cases (out of 390). There are now a total of 21,363 positive cases with 7,456 cases being active.
