COVID-19: New cases jump to 871 today, 702 reported in Sabah

Malaysia has recorded 871 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 20,498. This is a new record high after recording 869 cases yesterday. There are 7 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 187.

The Ministry of Health has reported 701 new recoveries, which is also a new daily record high and a total of 13,262 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 64.75% while the mortality rate is at 0.91%.

There are currently 7,049 active COVID-19 cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 86 patients are in ICU while 28 require respiratory support.

Out of the 871 new cases today, 5 are imported while 866 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consist of individuals returning from Nepal, Singapore and India.

In terms of local cases, Sabah recorded the most with a staggering 702 new cases today which include 49 new cases from the newly identified Kepayan prison cluster. This is followed by Selangor with 77 cases, Penang with 45 cases and Perak with 10 cases.
