In late September, Singapore Airlines announced that they will let their customers dine and explore a parked Airbus A380—for only two days. In just 30 minutes after bookings opened on the 12 October, all seats had been reserved.
The experience—named Restaurant A380—lets customers explore their A380 double-decker airbus, while have a dining experience in their choice of cabin class. A meal in a suite costs SGD 642 (RM1,960.02), while seats in business class are going for SGD 321 (RM980.01), SGD 96.30 (RM294.01) for premium economy and SGD 53.50 (RM163.34) for economy.
Guests can pick either classic Singapore Airlines dishes, or choose from a Peranakan menu—specially designed by Singaporean chef Shermay Lee. The experience also lets you pair your meal with two complimentary alcoholic drinks and a free flow of other beverages.
Singapore Airlines suffered a record SGD 1.12 billion (RM3.4 billion) net loss in the quarter through June and is laying off about 20% of its workforce. With flights mostly grounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has also been trying to raise money by letting customers order First Class or Business Class meals to their homes, and giving guided tours at their training centre.
After the tickets to Restaurant A380 for 24 and 25 October have been sold out so quickly, the airline said it will extend the offer for a further two days the following weekend (31 October and 1 November) and also add a dinner option on all four days.
