Apple iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max pack 50% more RAM than last year’s iPhone 11 Pro

Apple has finally taken the wraps off the new iPhone 12 series, consisting of four new phones that come with 5G connectivity. Apple normally does not disclose any information about the amount of RAM for its iPhone models, but we now know as 9to5mac has revealed more details via the latest Xcode release.

According to the information gathered by the site, the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 come with 4GB of RAM, which is the same as last year’s iPhone 11 models.

As for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, they both get bumped up to 6GB of RAM, 2GB higher than last year’s Pro models. It is worth noting that this is the first time Apple is putting 6GB of RAM on its iPhones.

It is suspected this was one of the reasons why Apple limited certain features, such as Apple’s new ProRAW photo format, exclusively to the Pro models. However, it remains to be seen how the difference in RAM will affect real-world performance between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

These statistics were first revealed by @Hiraku on Twitter.

In addition to learning about the amount of onboard RAM in the new iPhone 12 models, there are also early Geekbench scores for the iPhone 12 Pro. According to the results, the iPhone 12 Pro has a single-core score of 1590 and a multi-core score of 3120. To put that into context, the iPhone 11 Pro scored 1300 in single-core testing and 3300 in multi-core testing.

Comparing the results, the iPhone 12 Pro seems to fair not as well as its predecessor when it comes to multi-core performance. Granted, these results should be viewed a degree of scepticism until more tests are done.

According to Apple, the latest iPhone 12 lineup will be coming to Malaysia soon. Click here if you are interested in checking out the full pricelist. At the moment, Apple’s iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are already listed on its Malaysian website, but they have yet to reveal its availability details.
