If this leak is true, you’ll want an Exynos processor on your next Samsung flagship

According to renowned leaker Ice universe, Samsung’s new flagship chip, the Exynos 2100 would run on Arm’s latest Cortex-X1 super core. This confirms an earlier leak that said the new chip would consist of one ultra-high-performance, three performance and four efficiency cores.

The serial leaker claimed to found mentions of the Cortex-X1 buried deep within the code after digging into the Exynos 2100’s Geekbench listing. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise given that Samsung has partnered with ARM to bring custom CPU cores for its upcoming Exynos processors.

The new Exynos chip is expected to debut alongside the South Korean smartphone maker’s Galaxy S21 series next year. Samsung typically makes two variants of its flagship models: one using Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon processor while the other uses the company’s in-house developed Exynos processor.

Samsung flagship devices in Malaysia often get the Exynos version. Models like the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra came with the Exynos 990 though the Galaxy S20 FE uses the Snapdragon 865.

Samsung is banking on this next flagship silicon to perform a lot better than this year’s Exynos 990, that was not on par with the Snapdragon 865. As a result, most die-hard fans were not happy that the Note 20 series was offered with an Exynos variant for our market.

From what we know so far, Arm’s Coretex-X1 is a performance-first designed chip that is designed to deliver peak performance in shorter bursts. But the Exynos 2100 isn’t the only chip to use Arm’s solution as even the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 is expected to employ at least one Cortex-X1 super core.

Alleged Geekbench scores surfaced on Korean website Clien.net, stating that Samsung’s Exynos edges out Qualcomm’s offering. You can check out the scores below, but take it with a grain of salt.

So, it is expected that both chips, with their identical specifications, will not be that different from one another in terms of performance.
