The Android 11-ready Nokia 2.4 goes on sale in Malaysia for RM499

HMD Global has announced the Nokia 2.4 for the Malaysian market, with the Finnish company’s affordable Android-powered smartphone now offering a dual-camera setup, along with a stock-like Android One experience.

Nokia‘s latest bang-for-buck option comes with Android 10 out of the box, and the Finnish company promises three years of monthly security updates and two years of OS updates—which means that the device will get Android 11, as well as Android 12 software updates in the future.

What you need to know

One of the highlights of the Nokia 2.4 is the large 6.5″ HD+ display, which offers a cinematic 20:9 aspect ratio that should be welcome by users who regularly binge on Netflix/YouTube on their mobiles. The company also promises two days of battery life with the 4,500mAh battery, although charging speed is limited to a paltry 5W (via microUSB).

You’ll still have a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the phone is also equipped with an FM radio receiver, for which you’ll need to use a headset. Dual-sim is supported as well, but you’ll be missing out on expandable storage via microSD. Instead, you’ll have 32GB of onboard storage mated to 2GB of RAM in a single variant for the Malaysian market.

As mentioned, this is the first device in the series to come with two cameras on the rear: a 13MP main shooter and an additional 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots. Up front, you’re looking at a 5MP camera for selfies; this also works for facial recognition technology for biometric authentication. Or, you can use a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone.

As mentioned, the device is part of the Android One programme. For some context, Android One smartphones offer a stock-like experience, without cumbersome bloatware, and it should generally be a more streamlined interface. For less powerful smartphones—such as the MediaTek Helio P22-powered Nokia 2.4—this might be a better option than a power-hungry skin, for example.

Price and availability

The Nokia 2.4 is now available in Malaysia, with a single colour to choose from: Charcoal. Official pricing is as follows:

Nokia 2.4 – 2GB RAM, 32GB storage – RM499

If you’re keen, you can pick it up at Nokia Authorised Dealers, the Macpie online store, or on Nokia’s Shopee page. Customers who purchase the Nokia 2.4 on Macpie’s online store or Shopee will also get a free gift while stocks last. Meanwhile, the Nokia 2.4 is also available via RedONE’s Smart68X post paid plan.
