1 Utama will be closed from Sunday to carry out COVID-19 tests and contact tracing

1 Utama, the largest shopping mall in Malaysia, will be closed for at least a week from tomorrow, Sunday, 11th October 2020 as advised by the Ministry of Health (MOH). After a small number of cases at mall was reported, a detailed COVID-19 tracing exercise will be conducted by the Ministry with the support from the shopping mall’s management.

According to the official statement, 1 Utama has setup facilities for all staff and tenant staff to undergo tests to mitigate any further potential risks. At the same time, they are also closing the mall to conduct sanitisation to cover all bases with abundance of caution. The management also added that the mall will reopen after the test results are received.

The statement also shared that the MOH has confirmed that the cases detected in mall are not connected and it weren’t spread by one source. It added that the infected persons had shown no symptoms during the work days at the mall’s tenant outlets.

In their latest update, all staff at Mac City Service Centre were tested negative while all close contacts among the Parkson Elite staff have also tested negative.

1 Utama also urged the members of the public that have visited Mac City Service Centre and Parkson Elite 1 Utama between 25th September to 7th October 2020 to contact the Petaling Jaya District Health office at 03-78030106.

The National Security Council has also confirmed that the mall will be shutdown for 7 days. However, the tweet mentions that the closure will start from 12th October.

Malay Mail had reported that the Health Office will conduct COVID-19 health screenings in 1 Utama on 14th and 15th October 2020 from 9am to 2pm. Those that begin to show symptoms before the screening dates are strongly advised to seek immediate treatment. The same Malay Mail report also stated that Tropicana Golf and Country Resort was ordered to close for contact tracing and sanitisation efforts.
