COVID-19: 1 Utama confirms a case at Mac City Service Centre

1 Utama Shopping Centre has confirmed that a staff member from the Mac City Service Centre has tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member has since been admitted to a government hospital, although the mall management has yet to receive an official notification from the Ministry of Health.

The staff member hasn’t been on the premises since the 1st of October 2020; his temperature readings on the day were recorded below 37.5°C, management confirms:

“This is the first ever isolated case to happen in 1 Utama since the Covid outbreak this year and we are honestly quite devastated to receive the news despite our very best efforts to keep Covid away. However, after months of preparation, we are now in a good position to respond to this emergency. With full transparency, we regard this as our top priority to provide timely accurate information to you the public, our shoppers, tenants and vendors through this advisory.”

For now, 1 Utama is working with the health authorities and Mac City Service Centre to follow standard operating protocols. Staff at the Mac City Service Centre have been placed under quarantine, while the mall’s public areas and utilities are being sanitised.

Contract tracing efforts are also underway via CCTV and QR check-ins of the affected staff.
