Malaysia has recorded 317 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 12,088. This is the first time Malaysia recorded more than 300 cases in a day and it’s higher than yesterday’s 287 new cases. There’s one new death reported in Sabah involving a 57-year-old man and the death toll is now 137.
The Ministry of Health has reported 121 new recoveries and a total of 10,216 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 84.52% while the mortality rate is 1.13%.
There are now 1,735 active COVID-19 cases remaining which are currently isolated and receiving treatment. 29 patients are in ICU while 4 require respiratory support.
All 317 COVID-19 cases today are transmitted locally which consists of 303 Malaysians and 14 foreigners. The Ministry added that 37 cases reported today involved individuals that have returned from Sabah. Since 20th September, there are a total of 176 cases which has a recent travel history to Sabah.
Sabah has the most number of cases at 155 followed by Kedah at 102. There are 32 cases in Selangor and 9 cases in Terengganu. There are 4 cases each in Kuala Lumpur and Johor, 3 cases each in Pulau Pinang and Sarawak, 2 cases each in Kelantan and Putrajaya and 1 case in Negeri Sembilan.
The Ministry of Health has identified 3 new clusters which include Jelok in Selangor, Bah Lunas in Kedah and Bah Rose in Pulau Pinang. The Bangau-bangau cluster in Sabah has recorded 35 new cases while Benteng cluster has 10 new cases.
As mentioned by Senior Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob today, Malaysia won’t bring MCO back yet despite recording triple-digits in the past few days. He explained that while the cases are high, these were localised. He provided an example that Kedah’s 128 out of 129 cases reported yesterday were all from one prison.
