Chromecast with Google TV: Leaked images reveal new-ish user interface

Google’s upcoming Chromecast device is set to be one of the most significant upgrades in the series thus far, with Chromecast with Google TV set to be launched any day now. As we previously discussed, this will be the first Chromecast device to have the entire Android TV (now rebranded as Google TV) interface, and you’ll be able to turn regular TVs (with HDMI ports) into an Android TV.

We already have a decent idea on how the upcoming Chromecast dongle will look like thanks to leaked images prior to this. And now, a user over on Reddit has shared a series of images and videos that show off the new Chromecast dongle, along with the remote control and the actual user interface of Google TV.

Take a quick glance:

From what we can see, Google is bundling a power adaptor with a USB-A to USB-C cable, with the remote predictably using AAA batteries. You can also spot the user manual in the pictures, and we get a first look at “Google TV”, which looks like a redesigned version of the regular Android TV UI.

The user also revealed that he got the device from Walmart for USD 49.98 (~RM208), which tallies with the rumoured price tag of USD 49. Additionally, there is no Ethernet port on the dongle—which makes sense, given the slim profile that the Chromecast has. Regardless of its new name, Google TV purportedly still runs on Android 10, and 4K/HDR support is also included.

For now, we’ll have to wait for official word from Google to confirm the details, along with other specs and features. Rumoured to be unveiled at the end of September, there might be some bad news for Malaysian users: just like other Google (and Pixel)-branded products, the Chromecast with Google TV will probably not be launched in Malaysia.
