The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is finally official and it promises to offer what fans really want at a lower price point. It looks similar to the current Galaxy S20 series and it features almost everything that you would expect from a flagship smartphone.

The Galaxy S20 FE comes with a flat 6.5″ Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED display which puts it right between the S20 and the S20+ in terms of screen size. It still pushes a 120Hz refresh rate but at a lower Full HD+ resolution. There’s also an in-display fingerprint sensor which is optical-based instead of ultrasonic.

Under the hood, it runs on either a Snapdragon 865 or an Exynos 990 processor and it is also offered in either LTE and 5G versions. Internally, it can be configured with either 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of storage which is still expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card.

In the camera department, the rear gets a familiar bump with 3 cameras. It has a 12MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and an 8MP telephoto camera. The device has 3x optical zoom and it goes all the way up to 30x in digital zoom. For selfies, it gets a 32MP selfie shooter that sits in the display’s punch-hole.

Powering the S20 FE is a huge 4,500mAh battery which is similar to the Galaxy S20+. It also supports 25W fast charging via USB-C that pushes 50% charge in 30 minutes. There’s also fast wireless charging along with Wireless PowerShare which allows you to charge other devices wirelessly on the back of the S20 FE.

Despite being a “cheaper” model, you also get IP68-rated dust and water resistance and also wireless Samsung Dex. Another fan-favourite feature that’s included is stereo speakers that are tuned by AKG. Unfortunately, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack which is expected on newer Samsung flagship models. The device also has NFC and MST for Samsung Pay but it is offered only in selected markets.

The Galaxy S20 FE comes in 6 different colours namely Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Red, Cloud Orange and Cloud White. In the US, it is priced at USD 699 (about RM2,904) which is significantly more affordable than the base model Galaxy S20.

In the US, it will be available on 2nd October and pre-orders are now available. At the time of writing, Samsung Malaysia has yet to reveal our local pricing and availability details. Stay tuned to us for the latest update.
