Malaysia has recorded 147 new COVID-19 cases today and this brings the total number of infections to 10,505. This is the highest daily figure since 11th September 2020. Unfortunately, there are 3 new deaths reported today and the death toll is now 133.
The Ministry of Health has reported 39 new recoveries and a total of 9,602 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 91.40% while the mortality rate is 1.27%.
There are currently 770 active COVID-19 cases remaining which are currently isolated and receiving treatment. 8 patients are in ICU while 2 require respiratory support.
Out of the 147 new COVID-19 cases reported today, 4 are imported while 143 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consists of 3 Malaysians returning from India and 1 foreigner returning from Indonesia.
Sabah has the most number of infections with 134 cases. There are 105 new cases from Benteng cluster, 8 from Bangau-bangau cluster, 8 from Laut cluster and 2 from the newly identified Udin cluster. The other remaining cases in Sabah also include 5 from severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) screening, 3 from healthcare staff screening and 1 through detainee screening.
There are also 5 new cases in Kedah which include 4 from the Sungai cluster and 1 that was detected through community screening. There are also 2 new cases in Selangor and 1 new case each in Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur.
According to the Ministry of Health, the new Udin cluster was detected through a senior citizen screening at a health clinic. The index patient is a 72-year-old woman and the two new cases reported today are close contacts. 128 individuals have been screened and 54 are still pending results.
