COVID-19: New cases jump to 82 today, 60 cases reported in Sabah

Malaysia has reported 82 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 10,358. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported today and the death toll remains at 130.

The Ministry of Health has reported 168 recoveries and a total of 9,563 have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 92.32% while the mortality rate is 1.26%.

There are 665 active COVID-19 cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. 9 patients are in ICU while 2 require respiratory support.

Out of the 82 new COVID-19 cases reported today, 10 are imported while 72 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consist of 9 Malaysians returning from India and 1 foreigner arriving from Indonesia.

In terms of local COVID-19 cases, Sabah has recorded the most with 60 cases. This includes 41 cases from Benteng, 6 from Pulau and 6 from Selamat clusters.

The Ministry of Health has identified a new Bangau-bangau cluster in Semporna which recorded 5 new COVID-19 cases today. There’s also a case detected through community screening and one from hospital referral.

There are also 10 new cases in Kedah. This includes 9 from the Sungai cluster and 1 detected through TEMCO screening. There’s also one case in Sarawak screened via symptomatic screening and one case in Selangor that was detected during pre-surgery screening.

As of today, the Benteng cluster currently has a total of 624 positive cases and the Pulau cluster has 35 positive cases. Meanwhile, the Selamat cluster has 25 positive cases and the Sungai cluster in Kedah has a total of 83 positive cases.

At the moment, Sabah has 3 red zones located in Tawau, Lahad Datu and Semporna, and Kedah has 1 red zone in Kota Setar. The states of Perak, Perlis, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan, as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan are fully green.
