COVID-19: New cases jump to 57 today, new cluster identified in Sabah

Malaysia has reported 57 new COVID-19 cases today, which brings the total number of infections to 10,276. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported today and the death toll remains at 130.

The Ministry of Health has reported 40 new recoveries and a total of 9,395 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently at 91.43% while the mortality rate is 1.27%.

There are currently 751 active COVID-19 cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. 9 patients are in ICU and 2 require respiratory support.

Out of the 57 cases reported today, 6 are imported while 51 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consist of 5 foreigners arriving from Indonesia (3), Pakistan (1) and Zambia (1) and 1 Malaysian returning from the United Kingdom.

In terms of local cases, Sabah has the most with a total of 49 cases. This includes 14 new cases from the Pulau cluster, 12 from the Selamat cluster and 5 from the Benteng clsuter. The Ministry of Health has also identified a new Kuarters cluster in Tongod, Sabah which has 5 positive cases.

There’s also 1 new case in Selangor that was detected during pre-surgery screening and another 1 case in Kedah from the Sungai cluster.
