One of the biggest eSports tournaments of the year will be taking place in one week. And to commemorate the 2020 League of Legends World Championship, Riot usually releases a hype track to get people in the zone and this year was no exception. Take Over features artists Jeremy McKinnon (from ADTR), MAX, and Henry and was released to mixed reception. Personally, I’m still on the fence about the track but that’s not what this article is about.
You see, what caught my eye came at the end of the video when Faker (who, unfortunately will be watching Worlds from home this time) can be see watching a video on an Oppo smartphone. But which Oppo smartphone because the particular design is definitely one I haven’t seen before. However, there are a few noticeable tells.
For starters, the most recognisable feature here is the camera bump. At first, when I sent the screenshot to Alex, he thought it looked a lot like the Oppo Find X2 Pro. But, upon closer inspection, I ruled it out because the Find X2 Pro’s camera bump didn’t have the horizontal line of text running across the side of the bump. Also, the camera module for the zoom lens on the Find X2 Pro is square while this is rounded.
Doing a little more digging, it looks like this could instead be the more affordable Oppo Find X2 instead. The camera bump, relative size and overall design elements seemed to line up as well. So, does that mean that we’ll see a special limited edition Worlds themed Oppo Find X2?
Oppo’s pretty well known for launching some awesome special edition devices with specific themes. There was the Avengers one for the Oppo F11 Pro. Then, there was the Reno Ace that was Gundam-themed and of course who could forget the epic Ace 2 EVA Limited Edition that was built for the 25th anniversary of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series.
But, looking at this colourway, if this Worlds or Championship limited edition phone were to launch, it might be my favourite. Love the gold and blue colourway and if they somehow also manage to make the back glow like that, oh man.
In any case, I’ve reached out to Oppo Malaysia for confirmation on whether there will actually be a limited edition Find X2 for this tournament, and will update this post as soon as I hear back from them.
The 2020 League of Legends World Championship will take place in Shanghai from the 25th of September to the 31st of October. It will feature the best teams from around the world, and NA, who will all be battling it out for the Summoner’s Cup.
I would personally love it if Europe’s powerhouse G2 won it all, but considering the strength of the Chinese and Korean teams this year, it seems very unlikely. Either way, I’ll be tuning in to catch basically every match, so I’d love to hear your predictions down in the comments below.
