AirAsia now offers unlimited in-flight WiFi for RM48

If you want to stay connected with no limits on your next AirAsia flight, the low cost carrier has just introduced its new Unlimited WiFi plan offering. This replaces the previous 200MB plan which costs RM58 per flight.

With this promo, you can enjoy unlimited WiFi usage throughout the entire flight for RM48 instead of its usual pricing of RM58. The plan is also offered at THB 375 on Thailand AirAsia, IDR 169,000 for Indonesia AirAsia and PHP 560 for Philippines AirAsia.

According to the fine print, speeds will be throttled to 128kbps upon reaching 200MB quota on selected AirAsia WiFi and WiFi+ aircraft. That’s still good enough for light web browsing, social media updates and instant messaging.

If you don’t need unlimited, the next option is the 50MB plan at RM38, followed by 20MB plan at RM18 and 10MB plan at RM9. The unlimited plan’s RM48 promo price is available from the 1st September to 31st October 2020.

Unfortunately, not all AirAsia aircraft are equipped with in-flight WiFi capability. To find out if your next flight is supported, you can check on the AirAsia WiFi page by entering your flight number 8 hours before the flight.

AirAsia has recently upgraded some of its aircraft with faster WiFi that uses the Ka-band frequency which is a significant improvement over the older L-band based in-flight WiFi service. When we try out the service, we managed to get 1.3Mbps download while others have managed to get as high as 9.1Mbps. With the new WiFi service, we are able to stream videos and make video calls, but probably want to do so sparingly to save on “high-speed” quota. You can learn more about it here.
