COVID-19: 23 new cases today, new Pulau cluster identified in Sabah

Malaysia has recorded 23 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 9,969. Fortunately, there are no new deaths recorded and the death toll remains at 128.

The Ministry of Health has reported 6 new recoveries and a total of 9,209 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 92.38% while the mortality rate is at 1.28%.

There are currently 632 active COVID-19 cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. The number of patients in ICU has risen to 14 and 4 of them require respiratory support.

Out of the 23 new cases today, 10 are imported while 13 are transmitted locally. The imported cases consists of 4 individuals arriving from the Philippines, 1 from Bangladesh, 1 from Turkey, 1 from Hungary, 1 from Nigeria, 1 from Qatar and 1 from Morocco. Half of the imported cases are returning Malaysians.

All 13 local cases reported today are reported in Sabah. 8 cases are from the newly identified Pulau cluster, followed by 4 cases from the Benteng cluster. There’s also 1 case that was detected through hospital screening.

According to the Ministry, a total of 128 individuals have been screened from the Pulau cluster at Kunak, Sabah. A total of 9 individuals are found positive and 101 are still waiting for results.

Meanwhile, the Benteng cluster currently has a total of 424 positive cases. A total of 6,610 individuals have been screened and 2,707 are still waiting for results. 395 positive cases from this cluster are detainees.
