COVID-19: 47 new cases today, 591 active cases remaining

Malaysia records 47 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 9,915. Fortunately, there are no new deaths and the death toll remains at 128 for 12 days.

The Ministry of Health has reported 7 new recoveries and a total of 9,196 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 92.75% while the mortality rate is at 1.29%.

There are currently 591 active cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. 9 patients are in ICU while 4 require respiratory support.

Out of the 47 cases today, 2 are imported while 45 are transmitted locally. The imported cases are 2 foreigners that have arrived from Morocco and Maldives respectively.

In terms of local COVID-19 cases, Sabah has reported 31 cases while 14 are reported in Kedah. The new cases in Sabah consists of 22 from the Benteng cluster, 4 from a senior citizen screening at a health clinic, 2 from a quarantine centre screening, 1 from a healthcare staff screening, 1 detainee from the Kudat district police station and 1 from an Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) screening.

The 14 new cases in Kedah comprises of 13 from the Tawar cluster and 1 from the Sungai cluster. Malaysia has been recording more than 20 cases for 7 straight days and bulk of the new cases are from the Benteng cluster in Sabah.

As of 12pm today, 4,666 individuals from the Benteng cluster have been screened and there are now 403 positive cases which include 383 detainees. 2,553 individuals are still waiting for their results.
