Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro: Everything you need to know

Huawei has just announced a brand new smartwatch—or is it? The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is essentially an upgraded version of the 2019 Huawei Watch GT 2, with some significant upgrades. This means that the latest wearable from the company features much of the same strengths as its predecessor—great battery life, a variety of sports modes—and will sit above the Watch GT 2 and Watch GT 2e in the range.

The most notable upgrade that the “Pro” moniker brings is added support for wireless charging. Unlike some other wearables (looking at you, Galaxy Watch), you’ll be able to charge the Watch GT 2 Pro with any Qi-compatible wireless charger—or even via smartphones that support reverse wireless charging.

Specs

There are two variants that you can choose from: Classic and Sport. From what we can tell, the main difference between the two is the material of the wrist strap, with the Sport version using a Black Fluoroelastomer strap; on the Classic, you get a Gray Brown leather strap.

The Watch GT 2 Pro also uses more premium materials than the Watch GT 2, which explains a heavier weight of 52g (without strap) of the watch. Huawei’s new wearable has a titanium case and sapphire glass for the watch face, which should mean that durability is now improved as well.

Putting that aside, most of the specs are identical to Huawei’s other Watch GT 2 series smartwatches. You’re looking at a 1.39″ AMOLED display pushing a resolution of 454×454 pixels, while there is 4GB of onboard storage to store songs. There’s also a built-in speaker and microphone—you’ll only be able to use this for calls, however, without support for Google Assistant (or any GMS services, of course).

Under the hood, the Kirin A1 chip powers the Watch GT 2 Pro, which means that you’re also looking at the same impressive 14-day battery life in standard mode (which we have tested, and found to be true on the Watch GT 2)—while wireless charging is a welcome upgrade.

Like all of Huawei’s recent smartwatches, this runs on LiteOS, so you get the same sports-focused (but rather limited) user interface. There are over 100 workout modes supported, including new golf, skiing, and snowboarding modes. Huawei has also included a new “route back” feature, which basically allows users to retrace their steps back home using GPS data.

Finally, there is also improved heart rate monitoring via the new TruSeen 4.0+ sensor, with Huawei saying that upgraded LEDs and glass materials—along with AI-based algorithm—help to reduce power consumption while measuring SpO2 readings.

Price and availability

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro will be available later this month, with retail pricing as follows:

Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro (Sport) – EUR329 (~RM1,619)
Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro (Classic) – EUR349 (~RM1,717)

As for Malaysian pricing and availability details, we don’t have any official word just yet. However, we do expect to receive more information soon, so remember to keep your browser locked on SoyaCincau.com for the latest updates.
