We recently talked about the the upcoming Sony Xperia 5 II, with leaks suggesting that Sony will finally be jumping on board the high refresh rate bandwagon with a 120Hz display. If that piqued your interested, a promo video has now surfaced online—one that reveals the release date, features, and key specs of the upcoming Sony flagship phone.
The leak was shared by reliable source EVLeaks, along with the caption, “promo vid for the handset launching 9/17”. This tallies with what we’ve heard so far, which means that we’ll be seeing the Xperia 5 II being launched in around one week’s time.
Before we go any further, watch the promo video here (or skip ahead for a breakdown):
As mentioned, it now looks like the 120Hz refresh rate display will be indeed be coming with the Xperia 5 II, along with a 240Hz touch sampling rate. Previous reports also suggest that this will be a 6.1″ Full HD HDR OLED panel; this is, after all, a smaller flagship compared to the Xperia 1 II.
From a photography standpoint, Sony is also bringing over real-time-eye-tracking from its Alpha mirrorless cameras. This works with both humans and animals, and the video demonstrates how motion shots are taken in focus, even with a dog running past the photographer. Of course, we’ll have to try out the feature in person to judge it, but this is certainly a welcome feature on Sony’s upcoming phone.
Three rear cameras in total are made up of a 24mm wide-angle lens, a 16mm ultra-wide angle lens, and a 70mm telephoto lens. There’s also a burst mode that does 20fps with AF/AE, so it’s clear that Sony is (yet again) making photography one of the focus points of an Xperia smartphone. Video too, with the Xperia 5 II supporting 4K HDR shooting at 120fps in the Cinema Pro app (basically, slow-motion).
And yes, there will be a dedicated shutter button.
Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 865 logo is pictured in the video, which confirms what we’ve already heard. However, we could also see a few gaming-centric features too, which makes a lot of sense due to the ongoing growth in popularity for the mobile gaming genre. This includes compatibility with Sony’s DualShock 4 controllers, and a “game enhancer” to tweak your experience.
The Xperia 5 II also looks like it will feature front-facing stereo speakers, with support for Sony’s LDAC and DSEE codecs. DSEE essentially upscales compressed audio tracks to replicate a better quality one, and support for the codec is generally a staple in Sony’s premium headphones.
Finally, the video confirms that we’ll see a 4,000mAh battery on the Xperia 5 II. Not a huge battery by 2020 standards, and it’s the same size as the one on the larger Xperia 1 II—still, it would have been nice to have a slightly larger battery, at least. Still, you’ll get a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is always nice to have, even with the proliferation of TWS earbuds that promise low latency for mobile gamers.
So, what do you think? Blass confirms that the device will launch on the 17th of September 2020, so come back to SoyaCincau.com for the latest coverage as it happens.
