Honor unveils MagicBook and MagicBook Pro with AMD Ryzen 4000 chips

In conjunction with IFA 2020, Honor has introduced three new laptops that are powered by AMD’s Ryzen 4000 chips. This includes its top of the line MagicBook Pro and a refresh of its current MagicBook 14 and MagicBook 15.

Honor MagicBook Pro

The Honor MagicBook Pro is a 16.1″ laptop but unlike the version that was launched in China, the global market is getting the AMD Ryzen 5 processor instead of the 10th gen Intel Core units. Although it has a larger screen, Honor says the MagicBook Pro has a similar footprint as a typical 15.6″ laptop.

The screen pushes Full HD resolution that boasts a 90% screen-to-body ratio. This is made possible with its 4.9mm narrow bezels and the laptop uses a pop-up webcam that’s hidden between the keyboard’s function keys. On top of that, the screen boasts better colour accuracy with 100% sRGB.

The laptop runs a 7nm AMD Ryzen 5 4600H chip that boasts 6-cores with 12 threads and integrated AMD Radeon graphics. It can be configured with up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 512GB of PCIe NVMe SSD. The MagicBook Pro also features dual fans and dual heat pipes designed to reduce heat dissipation for a sustained performance.

The laptop has a dual speakers that claim to be able to produce virtual 3D sound. For greater convenience, there’s also a power button with an integrated fingerprint sensor. In terms of ports, the laptop has 3x USB-A (USB 3.2 Gen 1), 1x USB-C, 1x HDMI port and 1x 3.5mm headphone jack.

Powering the laptop is a 56Wh battery that is rated to provide up to 11 hours of battery life. It supports 65W fast-charging which can do 50% charge in just 30 minutes. Overall, it weighs 1.7kg and is 16.9mm thick.

The MagicBook Pro with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD is officially priced at EUR 899.90 (about RM4,420) in Europe and it’s available from 7th September. During the event, it was revealed that it’s coming to Malaysia starting from October. Unfortunately, there’s no local pricing yet but we are guessing that it could be priced under RM4,000 when it comes to our shores.

Honor MagicBook 14 and 15

Apart from the MagicBook Pro, Honor has also refreshed the MagicBook 14 and MagicBook 15. The overall design remain unchanged from the current model but it runs on a Ryzen 5 4500U which boasts 33.7% faster performance than the previous Ryzen 5 3500U. The processor is a 6-core unit with 6 threads.

The rest of the specs remain unchanged with a Full HD display, up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of SSD storage. The laptops also retain a pop-up webcam camera and a fingerprint sensor integrated power button.

The ports remain unchanged with a total of 2 USB-A (1x USB 3.0, 1x USB 2.0), 1x USB-C, 1x HDMI and 1x 3.5mm headphone jack. Both also supports 65W fast charging via USB-C.

In Europe, the MagicBook 14 with 8GB RAM + 512GB SSD is priced at EUR 749.9 (about RM3,683). Interestingly, the MagicBook 15 with the same configuration is priced lower at EUR 699.9 (about RM3,433).

So far there’s no indication that Honor will bring the newer MagicBook 14/15 to Malaysia. As a comparison, the previous Ryzen 3500U powered MagicBook 14/15 with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage were launched in Europe for EUR599 (about RM2,748). In Malaysia, the MagicBook 14 with 8GB RAM + 256GB SSD is priced at RM2,499 while the 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD variant is going for RM2,999.
